South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation

On October 14, 2021
The South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation was formed in 2008 by a few clay target shooting enthusiasts who were interested in creating an organization to enable youth a better opportunity to enjoy the art of clay target shooting. The mission of the SCYSF is to support all youth shooting disciplines within the state of South Carolina. Their focus is to provide a safe environment in which youth may participate in the sport of sporting clays. In addition, it is their desire to instill life skills such as commitment, focus, respect, sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive work ethic so that our youth will become productive, contributing members of society.
Our relationship with ERP has not only led us to a continued productive partnership with FCA but has been instrumental in providing opportunities for us to talk with other like-minded outdoor ministries. We were invited to the Hank Parker Shoot where we were able to have valuable conversations, some even leading to additional partnerships for SCYSF. ERP has a way of connecting people across many platforms and organizations. We are thankful for their support not only as a sponsor of SCYSF but in prayer and the work they do behind the scenes with organizations that in turn help us.
Sharon Roddey

SCYSF Director

SCYSF hosts five sporting clay events for youth in 5th – 12th grades across SC each season (December – April). The first event in 2008 hosted 119 participants, however, due to tremendous growth, the average event participation during the 2020 season was 698. With parents, siblings, and friends in attendance, there are typically 2,000+ on-site for event day. With safety being a priority, each youth must complete a hunter’s education course and each volunteer must attend a one-day safety training.

The leadership of SCYSF made a connection with FCA back in 2017 because of their like-minded vision of reaching youth through outdoor sports. From there, Twig Gray, in partnership with FCA, began working with SCYSF to have a presence at the events by providing…

  • Prayer Support
  • Bibles for Coaches
  • Plus other Resources
  • Special Guests to speak to the crowds

According to Sharon Roddey, SCYSF Director,

“While we use the avenue of sporting clays to teach life skills, bringing the message of Jesus and the need for a personal relationship with Him is the most important thing we can offer our youth and parents.”
